I called my brother John in Spencerport, NY, the other day and told him all about my granddaughter’s baptism. He then caught his breath and told me all about his grandson’s enlistment in the Air Corp. Austin was not quite eighteen.
I told John it was too bad Grandson Austin (niece Gail’s son) was not assigned for his basic training to the AF base near Las Vegas where my grandson is a Lt. Colonel. “Jason would take great care of him.” I said.
“How much would that cost me?” my brother asked.
I quickly changed the subject. “Guess who I met in Nashville?”
“Who?... I give up!”
“Mary Faucette.”
“Who?”
“Phillip’s youngest sister. She worked on the TV show, Nashville last year.”
“What was she, an ‘extra’ or something? I never heard of her.”
“She was a ‘grip’ or something. She was never actually on the show. More of a ‘gofer’ than anything else, I think.”
“Oh.”
“But she knew all the stars, on a first-name
basis.” Our conversation went on like this until we said our goodbyes.
“Oh, yeah,” John said, suddenly. “I just remembered why I wanted to talk to you.”
“Why?”
“I got an idea for one your stories, while lying in bed the other night.”
“What is it?”
“I forgot.”
I pushed the red button and cut him off.
