For all of me, we should do away with both the NCAA and the NFL. Replace them with the BMAA and the BMFL. The ‘BM’ part is my initials, and I’m glad to donate them to the cause.

They will go a long way toward solving the problem — there is a foul stigma attached to the NCAA and the NFL.

The NFL which (for some reason) includes the AFC as well, has Roger Goodall to contend with, the Super Bowl, etc., and the NCAA has the Heisman Trophy, the College Bowl Games, plus a myriad of other pressing issues — such as the Todd Gurley, lll, matter to adjudicate.

It would be simpler to abandon the two existing league designations and adopt a couple new gigs, such as BMAA and BMFL; the former for college football, baseball, basketball and assorted games of skill and endurance, and the latter for ‘professional’ activity. One thing that would be different, however: no one man would ever be in charge.

Among the ‘professionals’ it would be a committee of all team ‘owners’ who will be the deciding factor. Of the colleges, only the head coaches will have any say in matters pertaining to their teams. And the colleges and team owners will pay — not players — for membership in the union, no matter what the cost. All ‘professionals’ would carry over from their amateur careers, if adjacent and if necessary.

Something else — all memberships. whether ‘professional’ or ‘college’, will include Lifetime Family Insurance if the player is injured or ill or not, and can be revoked only if the player says it is. Otherwise, it covers the player’s current spouse and the player’s children and is cancellable only by the player.

All the ‘good’ parts of the current contract will remain, and I will be most happy to lend my initials to the cause. Now, let me see the current contract.
