The Atlanta Falcons played the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in Wisconsin Monday night amidst a snow storm, and as soon as the score was ‘thirty-something’ to seven in favor of Aaron Rodgers (who had himself a relaxing workout session) I switched over to a pre-recorded 48 Hours about Billy Whatshisface, son of the guy who screwed up the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach so badly 37 years ago he (the old man) had to sell the place.

The Fontainebleau was a playground for the likes of Sinatra, Martin and Rickles, but it was just a place to spend money for the Smiths, the Joneses and the Allisons. So, it eventually went out of business.

I have no idea who currently owns it, but I hope he (they) are more serious than his (their) predecessor(s) .Otherwise. he (they) is (are) set for a (-) similar fate(s).

Enough of the parenthesis. Let’s move on. . . I was in bed by 10:30 and asleep by 11:00.

But I woke up still bugged by Billy, the son,,Whatshisface and his stupid family. Billy was accused of murder, but where and how did the old man screw up and lose the business? Where and why did the old man enter into deals he couldn’t handle? Could it have had to do with the 15 grand-per-night fee for the penthouse suite?

I don’t know. In the days of yesteryear when I was employed, and traveled everywhere on the company’s dime, and stayed wherever I wanted, I never had a desire for the penthouse suite at the Fontainebleau. By the time they went out of business I couldn’t even spell it (Fontainebleau, not penthouse suite).

So, it was not a playground for the Millses. It was limited to the Sinatras, the Martins and the Rickleses. No wonder they went out of business.

On a personal matter: kudos to Brenda Wood of Ch. 11 for referring to Chris Holcomb as the ‘Chief Meteorologist’ of WXIA. (It in no way exonerates her from being assigned a driver and a car, being given a ‘mike’ and a pad — while still assigned to the 7 PM news — and why is Darren Whatshisface still on the air?)

The blank, black space just after Chris’s name (and before the AMS icon) is up just enough time for Chief Meteorologist to appear.

Appoint the young, good-looking guy who does the Friday night high school football fulltime Sports director and Jeff Fullerton as News Editor to do the news as he sees fit. Do this and you’ll own the 6-6:30 and 11-11:30 slots outright.
