REMEMBERING 9-11

It’s hard to realize that it’s been almost a year now since that fateful Tuesday in September… I can recall where I was when I heard the news—I was helping my youngest daughter get ready for school. I was so upset for about a week afterwards that I couldn’t do much creative writing, so instead I created several web pages to honor those lost and to help those living with the lost. The pages are still at my web site and you can find a link to them from my column page (URL above) or go directly to them from the links below. Re-read some of the prayers, essays and commentaries from last September and never forget our brave emergency service personnel who gave their lives to help others.

ROMANCE HAPPENINGS this month are sort of up and down. Nope, no word yet from New York on the fate of my humorous contemporary romance, BEAUTIFUL DREAMER. But I did receive a positive reply from an agent for a complete manuscript of mine entitled, SCRAMBLED EGGS. (And the next day I received a request for the first three chapters from another publisher!) SCRAMBLED EGGS is sort of an odd twist on the classic “secret baby” romance storyline you could say… Keep your fingers crossed that the agent likes it and wants to represent me.

And wonders never cease… Here’s a quote from yet another nice review of COUNTRY BOY, CITY GIRL:

COUNTRY BOY, CITY GIRL is well written with some wonderful dialogue and characters. Ronnie and David are the perfect hero/heroine. David knows what he wants and goes after it but Ronnie fights him every step of the way. There is match making and interference from Natalie and Edna. This is a good romance to read...

written over 30 books now but I don't know how to get

A: Hi Clayton,

The best advice I can give you is to search out for a writer’s group in your area. Look in the “calendar” section of your paper and see if there isn’t one nearby. Many libraries and bookstores have bulletin boards where they list the names and meeting times of writing groups. Find one that you feel works for you and your type of writing and attend a meeting. The writers there will steer you in the right direction.

Also, you can search for helpful writer's web sites online. Go to a good search engine like Google or Dogpile and type in "writers groups" and see how many pop up. You'll be amazed. There are a some good e-newsletters for writers that are a wealth of information, too. You can subscribe to
