Books by Gracie C. McKeever
Welcome New Subscribers!

I’m glad you’ve all signed up for this crazy ride and have decided you want to give my stories a try.

If djinns, ghosts, succubi or other mythological beings that go bump in the night are your jam, then you've come to the right place! If supernatural stories about psychics, reincarnation, time travel and wiccans arouse your curiosity (among other things 😉) then you’ve come to the right place.

Did I also mention spicy, sensual, erotic romance? Well, those are in my catalogue too. Just know, though my stories can be dark, and I take my characters through various trials and tribulations, they all get an HEA at the end. Always. Unless it’s my horror stories. For those, enter at your own risk 😂

The stories you will find in my catalogue include all of the above paranormal elements and beings and more. The characters are everyday people just like you and me, trying to survive and find love in a crazy mixed-up world. Okay, most of them might have a few gifts here and there that the rest of us don't, but otherwise, they are just like you and me, just a little larger than life😃

I believe I have a little something that all romance readers can appreciate. So sit back, enjoy the trip and stay abreast of what’s coming next!

If you ever want to see time fly, watch kids (yours, your siblings', your friends' kids) grow up. Watching them age, ages you. September I saw a nephew go to his first day of kindergarten, his older brother (by 11 months) start first grade and a girlfriend's daughter whom I've know since she was "this high" hit the big 2-1! Oh, and I went to a sister-in-law's baby shower (the tadpole, as of this writing came into the world the morning of 9/28/02 weighing in at 7lbs and was christened Demi India Maria McKeever.) She's got an older sister and two older brothers to spoil her rotten and they'll all most likely be starting their first days of college before you or I can blink.

Hope you're all gearing up for a healthy and safe Holiday Season as you sit back to enjoy the newsletter!

RECENT REVIEWS:

Of DESERT DREAMS: "…is an enjoyable book. Most paranormal romance authors write about vampires, shapeshifters, werewolves, ghosts, reincarnation, or time-travel. The Djinni or genie seems to be overlooked. I'm not aware of many stories using a genie as the hero. Ms. McKeever makes up for this in this fast-paced, exciting tale of a vengeance driven man and a willful, independent woman who must overcome cultural differences to be together. The reader can feel the tension and magic between Kane and Therese, as they battle to overcome the obstacles in their path.

Be sure to check out this unique, interesting, and magical tale. I don't think you'll be disappointed."
Rating: 4, Reviewed by Brenda Gill for Timeless Tales www.timeless-tales.net (Formerly Simply E-Books/Simply Dreams).

"Ms. McKeever sweeps readers away on a magic carpet ride with prose that glides along the desert winds… her voice snaps with authority and the Arabian details ring with authenticity. Readers learn fascinating facts about Islamic culture, such as why figural art is taboo… Ms. McKeever's style is engaging and her storytelling smooth as ebony silk. Expect to see her on the romance bestseller list." Rating: 3 daggers, review by Howard Hopkins, All About Murder Reviews http://www.geocities.com/murderlist

Desert Dreams—ISBN (e) 1-931696-10-1 (p) 1-931696-89-6—is available, in download (pdf or html) and print (trade paperback), and can be purchased direct from NovelBooks, Inc. at http://www.novelbooksinc.com for $2 off the Retail Price at $15.95 (paperback); $5.50 (download). Also Available from Amazon, B&N (brick-and-mortar stores by "special order" through Bowkers, just give the ISBN), Books-A-Million, and distributed internationally through other major online booksellers.

Of FLAMES PAST: "Miss McKeever starts slow, drawing the reader into the twisted lives of her characters. As the plot increases, the elements begin to purr like a well-tuned engine, with every character's flaw slowly entwining into the story. Though one might wish to read it quickly the first time, it's worth a slower reread, to pick up the little traits one might miss the first time through. She also manages to mix the problems of the current age within the romance, though at first it seems too much of a burden. Yet, as the reader continues through the story, there's a crackle, and the pieces of their burdens fall together, creating again the emotions and the element of a great romance, and one that teaches valued lessons in the basic desires, and the devilish natures of humanity. However, these topics may not agree with every reader, for they deal with the deep trauma of an abused child, the pain of losing a family to a mistake, and above all, the torment of secrets untold. If you can get past those deep topics, then the book is a winner, a paranormal that'll find a place on the keeper shelf." Rating 4.5, Reviewed by John Richard for Timeless Tales www.timeless-tales.net (Formerly Simply E-Books/Simply Dreams).

Flashback Classic-DANCING IN THE DARK: "I will be the first to admit that I came into reading Dancing in the Dark a bit unsure of what to expect. I read and absolutely loved New Life Incognita, and honestly wasn't sure that I would be able to fully enjoy another book by Gracie McKeever as much. I honestly don't remember why I was worried, because Dancing in the Dark was more then able to hold its own. There can be no comparisons between the stories, the differences are very distinct, but there was one huge similarity. I absolutely loved this book!

Gracie McKeever has shown me not only is she a phenomenal paranormal writer, but that she can write straight romance without losing pace. I could feel the anger and frustration of Sharise as she struggled to deal with her new disabilities, and I wanted to cry for her. There were also times that I thought the little brat needed to have her butt spanked, but that is a sign of a great character. You get so sucked into the story that you can't help but forget at times that Cayle, Sharise and their friends and family are only characters and not people you know from your everyday life. That right there makes Dancing in the Dark worth the read. Realistic and gritty with a little down and dirty, this book is going on my favorites shelf, or as close as I can get with an e-book." 4 ½ Stars, Reviewed by Angela B. AWE-STRUCK FLASH! FICTION -- "On Second Sight"
Sloane got within five feet of the bench before the dog growled deep in its throat, standing vigilant and protective at its master’s side, emitting a warning.

Normally, she liked dogs, especially big animals like the German Shepherd. They were excellent familiars. But this animal was defensive to the point of possessiveness.

“Who’s there?”

Too weak to exercise her usual caution, she replied, “My…my name is Sloane.” She was so hungry. Desperate. She hadn’t factored in the dog. But now it was too late. Once she’d caught the scent of its owner she hadn’t been able to resist all the colorful aromas and blends that rode the wind to her nostrils across the park grounds, sending her hunger into hyper-drive. She’d noticed him the previous day when she’d wandered onto the grounds during lunch hour. The memory of those first impressions had pangs gnawing her brain anew, so intense she thought she would O.D. on all the sensations.

He stuck out a hand. “Michael. Michael Weeks.”

Sloane hesitated, unsure if she could sample even that small part of him without being tempted to go further. Finally, she put her hand in his, closed her eyes against the kaleidoscope emotions that teased her taste-buds, a preview of things to come once she took him, essence more rich and earthier than the park’s Great Lawn, his musings a tantalizing mix of naive and worldly.

She saw his woman and child as clearly as if they were standing in front of her. Heard the loud blare of horns, grinding metal, breaking glass and screams on an expressway…

A parasitical entity that subsists on the musings of human beings walks a fine line between predator and penitent when her latest choice of sustenance strikes an unexpected chord of compassion in this paranormal romance by Gracie C. McKeever. Read complete story at Awe-Struck FLASH Fiction (November 13, 2002 – Issue #22 of The FLASH) http://awe-struck.net/FLASH_FICTION/flash_fiction1.html

THIS ISSUE'S COLLEAGUE IN THE SPOTLIGHT:
www.windlegends.org is the site of multi-published speculative fiction author of over 32 novels. Charlotte Boyett-Compo. Ms. Compo writes in the genres of horror, paranormal, sword & sorcery, thriller/mystery, sf/futuristic, dark romance and dark fantasy, most notably the Wind Legends Saga. Richly textured stories and delectably tortured heroes are the hallmark of the WL Saga, which will take your breath away. Check out the site and learn more about this prolific award-winning author and her work.

WHAT I'M READING/RECOMMENDED READS:
You'll probably notice a theme in this issue's selections—mostly that they are e-books. I've been trying to catch up on my stockpile, slowly working my way through an accumulation--disks, downloads, html's, pdf's, free, on sale, fellow authors, new-to-me authors, inspirational and erotica reads--you name it, I've been reading it. Below is just a sampling of the fare:

Polished off Eppie 2000 Finalist "Eye of the Beholder" by Mary Lynn from DiskUs Publishing www.diskuspublishing.com. Though not my usual taste, the excerpt of this inspirational during some surfing at the site immediately drew me in. Heartwarming story and down-to-earth, engaging characters with whom I found it easy to laugh and cry. A definite one-sitter. For those of you who grew up during the 70's and addicted to TV, think "Courtship of Eddie's Father"—one of my personal favorites, absolutely loved Bill Bixby and Brandon Cruz, aside from fervently pulling for an interracial romance between "Mrs. Livingston and Mr. Eddie's Father". Wasn't everyone?

Followed up EOTB with another Mary Lynn inspirational, this an Awe-Struck title, "More Than Friends". Just as, if not a more, enjoyable read and a nice May-December romance.

Rich business man Eli Conners has to rescue his younger brother from brutal captivity in the steamy and treacherous jungles of Central America and turns to tough, kick-ass mercenary, Ray Vereker. The sparks fly from this pair's first meeting and never die out. "Brazen" by Lori Foster is a sensual action-packed romantica with great chemistry between the h/h, and a smart, fast-paced story. I was lucky enough to win a download of this e-book from DiskUs in a contest about a year or more ago and finally decided to scroll through it. This read firmly entrenched Lori Foster as an automatic buy for me.

September 2002 was the last month to purchase a first edition of "Brazen" from DiskUs, and as of this writing, the print rights have been sold to Kensington Books. Watch for it in the future in Kensington's Brava line of books, retitled and expanded as "Unexpected."

Downloaded "Midnight Intentions" Free from Road To Romance's Contests and Freebies page www.roadtoromance.dhs.org several months back (the offer may still be in effect. If not at RTR, it's worth checking out the author's website at http://www.michelebardsley.com) This Eppie-award-winning title by Michele Bardsley is another one-sitter--fast-paced, sensitive, tight suspense. Some instances of domestic violence may be too graphic for the weaker at heart, but if you can get past it and are up for a saucy romance with great dialogue and multi-dimensional characters this novella is a keeper. (As of this writing, have just finished "Bride In Training" and am well into "Daddy In Training" by Michele Bardsley. Check out each of these titles at www.hardshell.com (in print and electronic editions). I don't think you'll be disappointed with Ms. Bardsley's voice—at once lol humorous and throat-tightening poignant.

Speaking of author voices I enjoy…whipped through "The Chance You Take" by Linda Bleser. This contemporary romance, available for purchase at www.novelbooksinc.com is a real winner in more ways than one. Off-beat humor and characters highlight this fun tale of love and romance set against the exciting backdrop of Atlantic City. Story comes complete with a spunky and sexy young widow, her adorable tot, her whimsical and matchmaking mother, a hapless Baldwin of a hero, and a priceless plotline that proves above all, love is worth taking a gamble on.

Recommended for the vampire fans among us: Poppy Z. Brite's "Lost Souls". Beneath the explicit sex, blood and gore of this book is a sensitive story of brotherhood and loyalty. A defiant and stunning debut novel! I loved this book. Check it out at Amazon.com or your local bookstore.

Next issue, hope to have some more interesting titles for ya!

THIS ISSUE'S NOVEL TEASER – "New Life Incognita":
The Summerland

Believe. Believe in the Tooth Fairy. Believe in Santa. Believe in God. Believe in the goodness of man. Believe in your elders, especially your parents and older siblings, for they’re always right. Believe in the birth of Christ. Believe that time heals all wounds. Believe that a tree with Bazooka leaves will sprout in your stomach if you swallow your gum. Don't believe in the bogeyman, witches, vampires, ghosts and werewolves. Don’t believe in little green men and the UFO’s rumored to be their preferred mode of transport.

Well, Kelly had believed in it all. The lies, the myths, the fables, the truths. He’d believed in Christ the Savior and vampires and werewolves and ghosts. He’d believed that man had walked on the moon. He’d believed in the beneficial healing results of positive thinking and mind over matter. He hadn’t believed in God in a long time, though he had been assured throughout his twenty-four years, by an assortment of well-meaning, holy sanctified aunts and grands that He believed in Kelly Butler. In fact, by the end of his life, the Christianity that his moms and pops had shoved down his and his six older brothers' throats had long since lost its appeal to Kelly. By the time he’d reached his late teens he had already begun to look for another system in which he could apply his beliefs. Consequently, he’d begun to question his consumption with the idea of the almighty green instead of the idea of an Almighty. He had believed in money more than he’d believed in his moms and his brothers, more than he’d believed in Amire, more than he’d believed in kingdom come.

He'd believed in money for the way it made people stand up, deliver and respect when he’d produce more than enough. He’d believed in money for the powerful way having it made him feel. He'd believed in money for the things it could buy his loved-ones. He'd believed in money for the things it could get him.

Money could get Kelly the latest fashionable rags instead of hand-me-downs that had clothed six sets of limbs before his own. To Kelly, the things that money couldn’t buy were, hell, obviously things that weren’t worth having anyway. Word.

By the time he'd learned the truth and had come to the glaring conclusion that money was the root of all evil--as his parents and everyone else without an abundance of it had always tried to make him believe--and not the root of getting Kelly everything he wanted, it had been too late.

And now there was nothing. No green. No fancy clothes and kicks. No beepers. No fly wheels. No foxy freaks hanging onto his every word. No God. No Satan. No family. No Amire.

Just nothingness. Just all bullshit.

"It's time, Kelly. You have to go back now."

Kelly frowned. Or did he? He wondered if a frown was a frown when you were floating around in nowhere. If a tree fell in the forest where there was no one around to hear it, did it make a sound?

He wanted to speak to the gatekeeper, the manager, whoever the hell was in charge and tell them they had made a mistake. He wasn’t supposed to be here.

"That’s why you must go back. You have a job to do."

He felt the Pull again. No pleasure, no pain. Just pressure to move. A force pulling. Evil? Good? Heaven? Hell? What was the destination, Major Tom?

"You'll know what to do when you get back. We have every faith in you, Kelly. Every faith."

What did They want from him now? What was he supposed to do? Use his gifts differently? Not use them at all? Would he even have any?

I wanna go home. Please don’t take me. I wanna go home.

"You’re on your way now."

August 2002's Winner of my Heat Up Your Summer Contest at Road to Romance http://www.roadtoromance.ca/contestpage4.htm is…up in the air. Computer woes at RTR translates into a fresh chance for you readers. This from Sue and the October Newsletter: "…All of September's contests were re-run in October because of some system problems I had. My computer blew up, taking all my spreadsheets, lists, addresses etc. with it. The problem is fixed and most of the databases are rebuilt, but I'm still running into little problems now and then. If you feel I was supposed to email you, talk to you about something or whatever, just email me at webmaster@roadtoromance.ca and we'll catch up.

The reason I mention this prior to the contests is because the crash had a direct bearing on a few of the contests. Gracie McKeever was giving away 2 books and only one person replied to the winners email,
