Gosh, is it really October? Just a few more months until the winter holidays. I've been a little disturbed by the holiday decor and marketing that started in September. Seriously, there are other things happening other than Christmas.

In fact, next week a large number of pet blessings with take place in conjunction with World Animal Day and the Feast Day of St Francis (a Catholic celebration).

If you have not grabbed a copy of my book, Blessing of the Animals, it might be a great time to order a copy. It is a great handbook for both attending and holding pet blessings and other animal ceremonies - - plus it goes into the history of blessing ceremonies and other trends.

I've been so busy that I've been neglecting the Ark Animals blog. It is still undergoing an overhaul and intern Nick is helping me pull a lot of things together. I'm going to miss him when he moves to his next internship!

Business has kept me busy along with filming some of the pet parenting school segments. I am going to be mixing things up and getting a camera to help get a different perspective on things. Paisley, Dakota and Cheyenne are the first guinea pigs. You probably saw the short clip of Cheyenne on the blog when I asked her if she wanted to go to school - - and she answered!

It is time to get ready for winter around these parts. I need to bring in some wood and get prepped sooner than later. The weather is supposed to turn cold next week but it usually waits until the end of October until it drops into freezing.

2. Product(s) of the Month

Many people think that their pets have enough toys, ample mental activity, and get enough exercise. But, the truth is, most don't. This is one of the biggest reasons people experience behavior problems with the animals - - lack of all three.

The clients I usually see are both smart and active, and this makes them a handful if their minds and bodies are not kept active and occupied.

Paisley is just such an animal. She is boisterous and looks like she has border collie or Australian shepherd in her mix. She pushes her way around and tries to boss everyone.

This is an animal that needs at least an hour of activity a day plus challenging tasks and training.

Like Cheyenne, the little cattle dog (aka "cuddle dog"), she loves learning and adores coming to school. Her excitement escalates to high levels and she is always super happy to see her teacher - - me!

For dogs like this, it is good to make sure you take them into other environments, get them into dog sports, train tricks, and make them earn their favorite things.

Feed balls, cubes and puzzles are easy tools in your quest to accomplish that goal. If you missed my article on, "Back to School for Animals Too" you can find some ideas and links to some resources.
