Wow, we are fast approaching the end of the year - - can you believe it?

I am happy to say that my firewood was delivered a day before the snow storm dumped eight inches of snow. The good news is that I am well enough and strong enough to have moved two cords of wood and get one stacked under shelter before it began to snow.

Just this last week I completed the stacking and covered the last pile of wood. It has been strange weather - - fluctuating from cold temperatures in the low 30s to highs during the day in the mid - 60s!

During my wood hauling, a lone coyote decided to use my staircase as a short cut to the lake. Wildlife does this a lot but I was on the deck in my bright red flannel jacket and he didn't even notice me!

I stopped to watch him and he felt my gaze - - then picked up the pace. It was interesting to see that he paused and looked both ways before crossing the road to get to the lake! Seriously - - he did.

This last month I had another animal adventure and wrote a summary that I called, "Bat in the Bathroom." Somehow a bat made its way into the bathroom and was flying around my head. He landed and paused as I pondered how he might of entered the house.

He then took flight as I pondered how to safely get him out of the house but he flew up behind the valence, and "poof", he was gone! I still don't know if I was imagining things or if there is some outer access area that he used to escape.

Haven't seen him since though and it still puzzles me.

I hope your holidays were great. Mine were mixed, good food and good friends but my father ended up in ICU from Thanksgiving until the evening of the 28th. It was a disturbing time, but he fortunately made it through okay. He had internal bleeding and lost a lot of blood and despite a few procedures, the source was never clearly identified.

At the moment I am in Joshua Tree getting ready to head down to San Diego for a meeting with a branding expert to help me bring all my skill sets under my "ArkLady" name so it doesn't confuse people.

So, I am on the road so this is going to be shorter than normal!

Since I just finished a column about the Pros & Cons of Christmas Pets, I just wanted to mention that it is better to adopt than shop.

I personally don't think giving pets as gifts is a good idea but everyone is different. The main thing is to make sure you are prepared and that the recipient is ready for the commitment of both time and money.
