Are you ready for the holiday? For those of you in the USA this week is the 4th of July but my pals in Canada are already celebrating since today is their special Canadian celebration.

Today the big milestone is that our community service non - news site has been running for eight years now. Hard to believe it started as a joke but it covers some of the local happenings, pokes fun at odd things, and covers things that serious hard new sources don't.

Locally, it is a hit but readers come in from around the globe to read about the small town of Fawnskin. If you are so inclined, drop by for a quick read, (http://FawnskinFlyer.com) it is super small town but can be amusing. What is funny to me, is that we've broken several national stories without any intention of doing so.

Here at the party perch it has been quiet, I have a few new clients that are keeping me busy but also am facing the challenges of running a team and making sure they stay on track. If you know of a good online graphics person, I am seeking a replacement for one of mine, they have to be super savvy when it comes to social media requirements and some offline literature as well.

Just recently I had the opportunity to get out on the lake and train with Annabel Anderson, the world champion SUP rider. An SUP is a stand - up paddle board. It was a long haul to get to this point and be able to get active again so I am looking forward to a great summer on the lake and on the trail.

Captain John's Fawn Harbor & Marina (http://FawnHarbor.com) is just across the street and it is a great place to visit if you come to the area. My pals love the marina and came up for the annual Paddle Fest. They also placed in the top three positions! The girls caught eight catfish between them and ended up feeding the entire group - - and I was lucky enough to be invited to the feast. Their claim to fame is actually a lemonade stand - - they are budding entrepreneurs and the town loves to support them when the stand is open.

In other business news, I've completed preliminary training to be a certified local specialist. There have been a lot of changes online in the last month and a half and keeping up with them can be tough. For those of you involved in pay - per - click, a big change will happen this month and if you need someone to manage your account, our man Chris is just the guy. No matter what I seem to be up to, I am always around animals and my pal Bear Dog needed some extra attention last month. The photo is actually of him at the top of the staircase waiting for me to rejoin him or to ask him if he wants to head out on another adventure.

Although he is eleven, he acts like he is about 3 years of age and he keeps me busy with hiking and exploring as a result. We both are worn out by the time his owners arrive home and he motivates me to push further than I might otherwise.

The truth is, we both need a rest when they arrive back in town!

The June webucation event was filled with information about optimizing the chamber of commerce member web pages. Many of the attendees were not aware of all the elements they could be using to help promote their businesses.

There have been some big changes online in the past six weeks and so the next session with be all about Google Places/Google Plus Local. Due to the holiday this week, we have delayed the Wednesday event to July 10, 2013 from 12:15 until 1:15pm at the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce conference room.

We will start later due to a meeting overlap. Usually the webucation live events take place from Noon until 1:00pm on the first Wednesday of every month. I should have a more comprehensive schedule done by August and the online training center is under development for those who have missed previous sessions or prefer to take the training at another time.

Online marketing is essential in today's business survival since 97% of people start their search for local businesses using the Internet first. If someone searches via mobile, they are likely to walk in or call within ten minutes of that search. Be sure to prioritize getting up to speed with the must know info we share each month.
