November announced its arrival with rain and snow, which to California is a good omen since the drought conditions have caused many challenges and worries.

Thanks to those of you who wrote to say you were sending prayers to my auntie and for my continued healing. Prayers are always welcome and despite some other tragedies that hit my family--lives were spared and recovery for those impacted is happily underway.

On the mold recovery front, the nodules on my thyroid are gone and my numbers are, according to one of my doctors, "the best that they have been." Of course, recovery is ongoing but I am definitely trending in the right direction despite hiccups and occasional discouragements. As far as we can determine, impact began in 2005 which is why it is taking a while.

In conjunction with NANOWRIMO (National Novel Writing Month), I've committed to more diligent progress on the manuscript along with a large number of other writers who are sitting their butts down and getting work done. When I founded the Alliance of Writers, there were many visitors who mistakenly thought manuscripts magically just happened--writing a book is seriously is like any other effort, it takes work!

Now that we are closing in on the end of the year, I have to say that November is one of my favorite months. The fall foliage, glimmering sunlight bouncing off the leaves and crisp weather spark my creative spirit as well as the inclination to curl up near a crackling fire. Plus, one of my favorite holidays is Thanksgiving because it is a time to give thanks and to spend time with others.

Although I enjoy spending time with cherished friends and family, some of my most memorable and meaningful holidays have been those where I've participated in projects that provide nourishing food and nourishment of spirit. If you haven't ever ventured out to do so, consider giving it a go.

At this time, I am getting ready to head back for more time with my father, his recovery is not progressing as well as I hoped, so my thought is that it is better to head back for another visit sooner than later and that is where I will be later this month.

One of the reasons I am able to head back on another trip so soon is because I obtained a business credit card and enough points to enjoy more travel by plane and train. I should have a special offer available for business owners in the near future.

Okay, I am a bit chatty today but I've got to get back to work. Stay warm and cozy this month and be sure to spend time with those you love.

Today is the Dia de los Muertos, a time for remember those you love. Whether you remember a human or an animal, I think it is a great tradition to celebrate those whose lives made an impact on you or your heart.

Loss is difficult and if you have read "What Animals Can Teach Us about Spirituality" you know my personal loss of Clyde was one of the hardest days of my life. Not too long ago I scattered his ashes around the Eye of God, the place he loved and the area where we hiked out in nature on a regular basis.

It was an emotional day, my friend who had given me the red wagon on his last journey to visit his favorite spot took me, she cried right along with me. Love endures and loss is part of a passage through life.

As I grow older, I understand the saying, "growing old is not for sissies" simply because passages, changes, and loss become more poignant. Perhaps it is as one of my friends laments, "There is more time behind me than ahead."

She is referring to her mortality. The human experience is filled with the loss of both animals and humans, no matter what you believe--it never seems to be easy. Both of my animal books share my thoughts or ceremonies related to life and loss of animals.

My path has taken me into a lot of different situations and learning opportunities. At one time I studied with a minister who gave me a depth of understanding and pushed the boundaries of my thoughts related to life and spirituality.

Not too long ago I signed up for an email list that is a departure from my normal inbox additions and through it I just discovered a book you might find of interest. I've been listening to "The Top 10 Things Dead People Want to Tell You" for the past few days and enjoying every minute of it.

Although it is not an animal book, it presents a variety of thoughts and messages related to life and our journey here. It has been so popular, hard copies have been sold out repeatedly.

Today I awoke and listened to the chapter on animals and thought you might like it. Now as with every book, audio, or video, it is always good to take what resonates with you and leave the rest but I have to say that it has been a long while since I have encountered a book that pushes thought limitations while also making me laugh and ponder the contents.
