Hello Friends & Family:

CALIFORNIA OR BUST!! As I’ve been saying since I published "Reluctant Witness: Robert Taylor, Hollywood, & Communism," I can’t have a book out on such a famous, glamorous, gorgeous movie star, a true King of Old Hollywood . . . & not go to Hollywood with it! Soooo, I and my publicist are working on a publicity tour for southern Cailfornia. As of this very moment, we have one appearance scheduled:

I, along with Jo Kelly, author of The Truth About Being An Extra – How to Become a Good Background Actor, will host an exhibitor’s booth for the day. Jo, an experienced background actor, is also the widow of Jack Kelly, of "Maverick" TV fame. My next book, A Maverick Life: The Jack Kelly story, is obviously Jack’s biography. Jo is a special lady, a talented & vibrant speaker, & a great writer. Check out her website & bio:

What will Jo & I have to offer? Our theme is, “Hollywood Between The Pages.” We’ll do book signings, of course, & chat with readers. There will be talks on our specific arenas . . . & we are planning special guests. I expect Tessa Taylor, Robert Taylor’s daughter, possibly some actor friends, & drop-in writers & other local celebrities. The “guest list” will be defined as we get closer to the day. I hope that any & all of you in the Los Angeles area—or anywhere in California, for that matter—will come by for a visit &, we hope, a few books!

If you have credentials as an entertainer, published author with a book on the market, or a musician, & would like to be a part of this, stopping by to help Jo & I fill up the day at the West Hollywood Book Fair, please e-mail me & let me know what you’d like to do to be involved. I don’t know that we’ll be able to take all that submit, but if your entertainment-related work fits in with our books & theme for the day, this might be a great opportunity to promote yourself. Depending on response, we will need a nominal donation from each selected participant to help with the cost of the exhibit booth, & the organization efforts. I will be happy to discuss details with you individually via e-mail. I hope to hear from you!

As for other events while in California, again, I’m looking for ideas . . . do you live in the Los Angeles area? Do you know of good, author event-friendly bookstores that would be great for me to arrange a signing? What sort of coffee shops are around, & do they like authors? Anyone up for an in-home book party? Other creative thoughts? I’m open. I’ll be in the Riverside area from Monday, 9/22/08 through Tuesday, 9/23/08. I expect to move down towards Los Angeles proper from Wednesday until I leave on Monday, 9/29/08.

One neat-o plan – tell me what you think: I’d like to have a reading of my book, with participants who can take on the parts of Robert Taylor & Barbara Stanwyck. Do readings at bookstores, coffee houses &, yes, the West Hollywood Book Fair. As of right now, I have my Robert Taylor and Barbara Stanwyck. Isn’t that exciting?! I may be looking for 2 additional actors, though, a man & woman – no particular look, since the parts are that of Zeppo Marx & his wife, Marion. If you know of an actor or actress who might enjoy the visibility, unfortunately this is a non-paying gig, please e-mail me.

There is so much left to do, & and so little time left to do it in. I’m gonna run now & hopefully send out an update before I leave for California.

And to sew this all up, please . . . please . . . please read my newest article, an interview with John Morrissey, producer of the critically acclaimed film, "American History X" and, in his previous life, an actor on "General Hospital." John played Stavros Cassadine in the ‘80s, & was deliciously-evil in the part. Here’s the link:
