This Newsletter is dedicated to the memory of its first subscriber, John R. Brownell, Lauritsen, Brownell, Brostrom, Stehlik and Myers Law Firm, in my home town of Grand Island, Nebraska. His biography can be accessed at http://www.lauritsenlaw.com/members.html#name2.

John R. Brownell was a professional friend whose efforts enriched my life and my books. He contributed his knowledge to the following books: _Paternity and American Law_, _The Cuban Family_ and _Female Genital Mutilation_.

The _Grand Island Daily Independent_, described him in part:

“John Brownell, a man whose name was associated with civic virtue, community growth and leadership in Grand Island for more than 30 years, died [October 26, 2005]. Brownell had been suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS, often called Lou Gehrig's disease, for several years. ... Those who knew and worked with him agree that Brownell's mark on this community cannot be overstated.”
