The Music Swings - I Don't

The guitar wails
down low on the frets
I fret
lowdown bewailing
my fate.

The sax screams
in highest register
I register
my lowest screams
sex deprived

The drums pound
in perfect time and fills
I fill
my time ponderously
excess pounded

The dancers twitch
tails together lightly stepping }
I bitch
my tale to no one
lighting my cigarette

The trumpet soars
sweet swirling arpeggios
I swirl
picking mental sores
from women I thought sweet

The base thumps
low lines resounding in my gut
I lack  the guts to remember the lines
that scored the humps

The keyboard rolls
right hand soul moving tremelos
I'd tremble
a coward's rights
my sole contribution

And all because
      the music swings
            but I don't
                  anymore

Roger--I don't believe it! Close your eyes and let the music take you where it will. You belted this piece out and I swear I heard the music. :)

Roger,

I really love the way you express things! I agree with Robert!
This stanza is excellent in the way of "show" verses
"tell" in poetry.
"The keyboard rolls
right hand soul moving tremelos
I'd tremble
a coward's rights
my sole contribution"
And for other reasons as well!

Ever heard of temporary amnesia? total recall? momentary bursts of true clarity?

As long as you draw breath, hope springs eternal... here endeth the "rose-colored-glasses" sermon number 23... believe it! Your rock has not been entirely rolled away... of course, you're entitled to your opinion. I just don't happen to agree with it. (smile) katy xox

Now Roger that's not true, this poem rocks so you must have some swing left, you just have to stop telling yourself you don't!;-)
