She lies asleep and unaware Of ruffled sheets and ruffled hair. A quiet repose, a time away From loves and fears she knew today. This sleep I watch where beauty lies Is one as deep as clearing skies. A face becalmed, a sea of curls, Flesh pale and cold, like winter pearls. A crimson stain on brightest white Alleges sin as dark as night. She lies asleep and unaware Of ruffled sheets and ruffled hair.
