In the "Book of Books," known as the Bible, there is one book that deserves to be called the "Greatest Book" in the Bible.
Most Protestant Bibles consist of sixty-six books, (thirty-nine in the Old Testament and twenty-seven in the New Testament.) In addition to these books, Catholic Bibles include books of the Apocrypha (belived to have been written between 300 BC. and 70 A.D.) Some Jewish Bibles also contain apocryphal books.
The greatest book in any of these Bibles is the "Book of Ecclesiastes." I write this with the awareness that we find in the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16) that "All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness."
For practical and everyday living the Book of Ecclesiastes ranks at the top of the list. This wisdom book, written by Solomon, the wisest man of all times, in the common sense vernacular, "tells it like it is," and informs us that "There is nothing new under the sun." This is the greatest book in the Bible because it declares with clarity the unadulterated truth about God, the Cosmos and man. Listen to some of these truths:
{"All is vanity." "There is a season and a time to every purpose." 'Remember your Creator in the days of your youth." "The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man."}
This is it. This is reality. These are the things that Man Alive needs to know, not just intellectually but experientially, in order to live victoriously, in the Preacher's (also known as Ecclesiasticus') and our "under the sun" world.
If, like Apostle John, I was alone on my Island of Patmos and was permitted to have only one book I would choose Ecclesiastes. Indeed, for me, this is the chosen book of the Bible just as the Hebrews are the chosen people of the human race.
My advice, and I tend to think seven- times-seven before I give advice, is: read and re-read Ecclesiastes. I will reiterate, read it experientially and you will discover things about yourself, other people, God and the world that you have never known, maybe never imagined. You will become empowered.
I have read Ecclesiastes, a book consisting of only twelve chapters, many times and it will continue to be my primary book of the Bible. It contains wisdom par excellence.
