moonslip

The moon casts off her lines
Freeing the tide to go out:
The pent-up waters of the Harbour
Flow now out to the open sea.

We castoff our bow line,
Allowing her head to swing
Into the stream. Letting go
Astern we join the ebb.

Sheeted home our mainsail
Catches the wind and
Begins to draw, carrying us
Down to the narrows

Full of anticipation, desire,
And passion for the sea
We slip through the narrows
Setting the jib as we go

Racing along with wind and
Tide down to the open sea.
Racing to passionate embrace
Upon the passionate sea.

At the harbour mouth we set
Topsail and second jib
Racing on down to the bar
And across out to the sensual sea.

There, beyond the bar, we enter
Into the rhythm of wave and trough,
Rising and falling together
Until, at length, we reach

The climax of our journey.
Slipping quietly up the
Harbour on the rising tide
We tie up at length to the dock

To await the primal urgencies
Calling us, compelling us, to go
Racing along with wind
And tide down to the open sea.
