a story of lost love

sometimes things happen
if not for the best
then at least
to prevent the worst...

I had a nightmare the other night–

We’d gotten married in ‘69. Had three kids.
Worked thirty odd years in perfectly respectable,
responsible, meaningless mid-level jobs.
Amongst neighbours exactly like us
in thought and word and deed we
lived a life of passionate disconnect
from everything that ever mattered, or
ever ought to have mattered, beyond us.
We never risked, never failed,
never overcame Failure; we
never saw the sunset, or the wind, or
the world in an imperfect rose.
We lived and loved bound up in us,
Us alone. And now our children
were carrying on the family tradition...

Hi John,
As I said in my bio,
For every fall,
"there is a lesson

Yep, that family tradition...do you ever feel like it's a curse that passed on to generation after generation? sigh I do hope it's only a nightmare...

Hi! You have described how everyone feels. Actually, many have the same feelings as in your dream. Never risking is to never fail, and that is a boring life.

To have risked and failed and rise again makes lives all the more interesting. Don't you think so?

A very thought-provoking write indeed! I love this!
