"The frangrance always lingers in the hand that gives the rose."

~~~~~~~~~To Dream Awake~~~~~~~
I tucked my pillows all around
So not to feel alone
Into the dead quiet of night
I ached for you into my bones
My yearning pierced each silent wail
Into a void they groped and fell
Until my lonely twisted aches
Slipped me to sleep to dream awake!
~Illusion~
In the diminished power of illusion
Her tears lasso a dream
Facets fade as the shade draws
Upon embroidered gloss she screams
In quiet sobs she remorses
What was then, is now... and gone
She holds the smile he gave her
Then pain strikes to her bones
Regrets of why it happened
Their crossroads of pure pain
When he came out of nowhere
Then for years echoed her name
It just wasn't meant to happen
As farrowed dreams paint fault
They bow to her fast sorrow
As her tears turn into salt
This world can be so beautiful
As dawn begins each day
But love can paint a canvas
Turn sunshine into grays
They take another pathway
Never knowing what is gone
To live a life without true love
Then go their way alone.
Oh Susan, this is so sad, yet a beautifully written piece. Your emotion comes through to your reader in poignant lines of wonderful imagery, i.e., "As farrowed dreams paint fault They bow to her fast sorrow". Again, so beautifully done.
Love,
CJ
The deep sorrow, regret and finality of lost love reflected in this poem is very sad and moving. The poem is beautifully written and makes me thankful that love is an infinite and inexorable force. At the exact moment one least expects it to bloom *bang*, love can suddenly appear and change lives forever. Well done Susan!
This is so compelling, Susan; it strikes the depth of my soul. Thank you. Happy New Year to you,
Lovely and passionate. As you are Susan so are the words. They may reflect a sadness in this write but it also shows the joy you're capable of and we've seen in others. "Heart and humor and humility," like Joni said, "will lighten up your heavy load."
Love you sooooo...
These are just some of your stylish, evokative lines.
Tears turning to salt reminded me of what happened to Lot's wife when she looked back. But your tears line, boy, this could easily become a figure of speach, a warning not to dwell on past relationships, events or bad experiences etc. It is certainly stored within my mind as of this read.
Love the way you personify pillows as comforting entities. I tend to ruffle mine up and bury my head in them for this reason.
And the smile he gave her had me unexpectedly singing a reworded version of the Beatles', Fixing a hole - e.g 'Fixing a smile'
I may have strayed a little from the poem's meaning, but could not help myself.
Thanks for this.
So sad Susan...never would I want to live without the hope and possibility and dream of that one true love....and it's just too hard to let go of it if you are fortunate enough to find it, unless it walks away from you. That ache can be a reality in the sorry of a lost love and the anticipation of a true one.
Love and hugs,
Taylor xo
Great if sad poem. We must all relate to this though. At one point or another there must have been some sad parting. Victor
You are so good with love poems. While the sad and regrettable ending is a part of your work, the reader is there... sharing each and every heartache and tremor. Good work, Susan. - Bill
