In the wake of the Virginia Tech massacre (April 16, 2007) ask yourself "If life's disappointments were like a blended family, what would be my position on how I would love myself?

Poem Artwork

Situation 1:
according to some his death came too soon,
according to her it was a guilt-free release
from a mistake she made upon being too prideful to
admit her apprehension,
she want'd to marry to get away,
it didn't matter whom she hurt in the process;

Situation 2:
according to some baby's birth came too early
according to birthmother it was a way to prove
she was all grown up even though she
never intended for him to use the condom
she'd tamper'd with playing baby-roulette
to get her own way. . . which she did
six weeks later. . . too late to pull out

Situation 3:
according to the church remarriage came on time,
according to the four year old it was a way
to spend more time with grandmother who
took over for her once widow'd daughter
who didn't look the part, nor did she choose
to assume the role of full time mom because
she was too busy being all grown up. . . and
grandmother kept being identified as "mama"
who liv'd on the other side of town. . .
easy access for birthmother,
free babysitting. . .
no foul. . . .

(Situations eclips'd)
according to the old woman in the rocker,
the day came when the four year old grew up
still clinging to grandmother who clung like a root
and paying homage to the one who gave her birth,
but the last names stay'd different than the
other 32 other siblings who got along,
and even at the age of accountability
the grown baby felt like a four-year old
with no affectionate place else to go. . .

Situation current:
a wave without a shore to hug. . .
limp in the riptide of family affairs and
conversations remain tea-party-polite. . .
but be careful what you say, for out of the heart
come the issues of life. . .and sometimes, even at death,
some issues are never resolv'd. . . and they have to
remain like the wave, seeking shifting inland shores;

Situation abandon'd
ever wonder in your heart
why affection never anchor'd
in the hearts of the ones who
sail'd off to another port-of-call....

so there the lone one stands,
with a ticket for love,
a boarding pass
for acceptance that was
never validat'd

and when that happens,
the best thing to do is to
set your own itinerary
for what you will
and will not feel,
for the heart is resilient

and eventually figures out that
when hypothesizing how love
is suppos'd to flow,
we can choose to drown in
the flashfloods of sorrow,
or swim against the torrent
of emotional resistence

so according to some, time changes things. . . .
but genetics and circumstance should never be
excuses for what God meant for us to discover
on our own. . . all that matters is for us to
constantly remember, for those of us whom are

HIS

that the master plan behind your creation
holds the trump card over your gene pool.

Cynth'ya,

You pen a strong one. When it rains, it pours: it is up to us to flow against the current threatening to pull us under and fight like hell. And then, take a celebratory cruise afterwards, because we survived! Well done, my (((sister friend)))!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
