eviction notes

[This poem is written in the memory of three special people in my life who lost their lives: my good friend, Dr. David A. Davis, EdD, July 1, 2003 (age 53) who died from natural causes; and my cousin Kelvin (KK) D. May, an HIV victim who was left for dead on June 27, 2003, and died from blunt force injuries to his head after being beaten with a fire extinguisher for some meaningless trinkets (age 40) on July 20, 2003; and my other cousin John Charles Wilson (47) who died in his sleep the afternoon of July 21, 2003 from a seizure].

sitting here wondering about
the wonders of the shortness of life,
and how it all can be snatched away
so quickly, is no different
for humans than for a kernel of
dehydrated corn that never had
a chance to take root, but instead
becomes a scavenger feast of bounty
for the hovering crows
who have carried away
the evicted soul.

So sad about your friends and family.
Yes, life is very fragile.
So use and love every minute the way you really want to.
