One Moonlit Night
She traveled to Florida.
He was already there.
He wanted to touch her,
run his fingers through her hair.
She was a thing of great beauty.
He was a man in great need.
She wanted to shake her booty.
He wanted to plant a seed.
Finally he decided
to throw caution to the wind.
He'd ask the girl to dance,
then he'd ask her again.
The floor is sticking to my feet,
he said as they danced.
She thought how long it had been,
since she'd last been romanced.
The rum was a-running,
but he was limiting his booze.
Ya, his feet were sticking,
but it wasn't just his shoes.
He's too self conscious to dance
when his mind isn't blurred.
But, he really wanted to hold her,
so the dance he just endured.
They went out to look at the moon,
but only as an excuse.
They even faked a smoke break,
for a chance to really break loose.
They kissed with such great passion,
it was like being under a spell.
They knew they really shouldn't,
but decided what the hell.
They walked down the beach,
then got carried away.
Every single detail,
he still remembered next day.
Are those people watching?
What if they come walking near?
We really shouldn't do this,
but he put aside his fear.
Oh, he still worries some,
was it all a big mistake?
Or, was it only a prelude,
to some others that he'd make?
Would she ever forgive him,
if she saw it as being wrong?
Should he try to forget it?
Did he come on a little strong?
She left him there,
in Florida, living all alone.
While she went back to Jersey,
back to her lonely home.
She seemed so sweet and gentle,
he could so easily fall,
but she has other commitments
and it's midninght at the ball.
If he could find the glass slipper,
would she even try it on?
Would she ever believe in him?
Would she think it all a con?
He thought about her often,
thoughts not really all that pure.
And, only time spent with her
would ever offer up the cure.
Life continues passing,
he's no longer all that young.
Time to move along,
to find that special one.
But, now and then he'll fantasize
and if the time should ever come,
he'll ask a girl to dance again
and buy her lots of Rum.
This is a poem that didn't make the cut to get into my book which is titled A Pursuit of Life, and contains about 130 other poems. It should be available through this site and others by late March or early April.
