My imagination runs wild. Not many things I enjoy more than a good game of pool, but along the way, I've imagined one or two....

Of course, it is ONLY imaginary....

RACK EM!!!!

SHOOT POOL OR DANCE

Met her at the Boardwalk,
it’s a local pub I know.
She was shootin’ pool
and really puttin’ on a show.

She said I’m takin’ challengers,
and if you’ve got the nerve,
I’ll play you for a double,
the most expensive drink they serve.

Win or lose, the tab is yours.
and later, if we get the chance,
after a game or two
you just might get me to dance.

Then, if we’re still speaking
and you play your cards just right,
we’ll stop for a late snack
and decide where to spend the night.

Of course, if you’re not interested,
don’t put your money on the table.
But, if you do, those are the stakes,
if you’re willing, ready and able.

With my pocket full of quarters,
I filled all the challenge slots.
This gal was really beautiful
and she sure gave me the hots.

She shot a pretty good stick,
carried her own custom cue,
win or lose I got the impression
this might be fun to do.

So I accepted her challenge,
thought I’d take the chance
that the reason she was here
wasn’t just to shoot pool and dance.

So we danced around the subject
as she spotted another rack
and I wondered just who was trying
to get whom into the sack.

We both drank lots of doubles
and found some fun things to do.
We shared a unique passion
but it all ended with that cue.

That could have been the beginning
of an enjoyable relationship.
We played lots of pool,
but eventually I gave her the slip.

We spent the evening together,
until it was time to depart.
She had intrigued my imagination,
but she couldn’t capture my heart.

I would really like to be able to leave a review but find that I just can't be objective on this particular poem. No matter how many times I read it, the last 3 verses sound like 'present tense' instead of 'past tense' like the verses that come before. I hope you don't mind but I'm not coming back to read this one EVER. I do, however, love all your OTHER poetry.

Dear Richard, this is fun and beautiful! Fun because you wrote it in a way that gives the reader a light and carefree feeling and beautiful because something wonderful happened along the way. Simple yet captivating. Well done. Peace and love in Christ.
