TIME TO MOVE ON
Once, I was the hammer,
I feel now more like the nail.
I need someone to be my Jill
to help me carry my pail.
I’ve been rolling with the punches,
been letting the sleeping dogs lie,
been living for tomorrow,
reluctant to say goodbye.
Been down this road before
and at times, been up the creek.
There’s temptation in this world,
but it’s wisdom that I seek.
I’ve kept my nose to the grindstone,
always tried to toe the line,
been offered several chances,
but felt it wiser to decline.
I need someone beside me
to be the wind that fills my sail
and if my boat should spring a leak,
to hold my rudder while I bale.
I know what a bird in the hand is worth
and that a stitch in time saves nine,
but it’s time to take some chances,
taste the more expensive wine.
I seek not fame nor fortune,
and if push should come to shove,
I’d want the world to know
my heart has shared your love.
These are beautiful words, "Been down this road before
and at times, been up the creek. There’s temptation in this world,
but it’s wisdom that I seek." And so are the rest.
