Once, she was my lover.
Now, we’re barely even friends.
It’s amazing how you grow apart
when the lovin' just up and ends.
First, we thought it was our time.
Next, we were trying to make amends.
But, it seems much less important
when the lovin' just up and ends.
Oh, once in a while we still talk,
but only now and then.
And, of course, there’s no intimacy
once the lovin' just up and ends.
Eventually you move along.
But, just how quickly really depends
on how well you’re prepared
for when the lovin' just up and ends.
One day you start to live again,
you’ll finally meet a caring friend.
Eventually you’ll find yourself hoping
the lovin' never just up and ends.
That future is now my present,
though it took me a while to mend.
For over a year, it’s been my hope
that this lovin' never just up and ends.
