STILL MOURNING?
She owned the best years
of this young mans life.
In the beginning I only dreamed
one day, she’d be my wife.
Then, for 20 plus years
she gave all that she had,
to give a great life
to her kids & their dad.
She taught them to live life
without having regrets.
She said we should “mourn her,
then get over it”
So, for a short time, I mourned,
then tried to move on,
yet after several new faces
she never really was gone.
Then, crowding sixty
and still on my own,
I tired of the feelings
of being alone.
Eggs over easy,
home fries and grits,
that’s about as complicated
as my breakfast usually gets.
Several days a week,
that’s the order I’d place,
just hoping she’d notice
the smile on my face.
There were good ones & bad ones
and some in between,
but none that came close
to the girl still in my dreams.
Then nearing Medicare,
a new love I found.
She was a beautiful blonde,
whom I hadn’t seen around.
We met for ice cream,
and she seemed really nice.
Should I ask her out again?
Should I roll the dice?
I’m such a fool,
this just never could be.
This beautiful blonde,
falling for me?
But, you’ll never know,
if you don’t take a chance
and she’d already told me
that she just loved to dance.
Next day I took her
for a convertible ride,
now wherever I go,
she’s always by my side.
We go to the Legion,
the Moose and the “V”
and whenever she dances
it’s always with me.
She’s a special lady
and if life follows my plan,
she’ll share many precious moments
with her new biggest fan.
Be always safe,
Karen
