Two people alone. Each having lost a mate to cancer. Seaking new adventures, each the other's answer. Or so it seems. Stay tuned.

THE FUTURE

I was heading for the sunset,
in the twilight of my life.
I was seeking out my future,
I had no stress or strife.

My future, in my windshield,
my past, the rearview mirror.
I was leaving the past behind me,
but my future was getting nearer.

Then it seemed I had a problem
and it became my greatest fear.
In spite of the greater distance,
my past seemed so much clearer.

I was in some kind of heavy fog,
through which I could not see.
I was looking for the beacon
with which she’d signal me.

Out the windows, life was passing,
going faster every day.
I wanted to put the brakes on,
if I could figure out a way.

Then, I fell for a lady,
but I didn’t want another wife.
I had so much apprehension,
you could nearly cut it with a knife.

The fog seemed to be lifting,
was that togetherness I could see?
Would we get away together?
Would she spend some time with me?

When the weekend arrived,
would she ask me to spend the night?
Would we share drinks on her patio
Should I give in without a fight?

Would she take me to her bedroom?
Would we dare take that chance?
I’d feel lucky just to hold her,
or to snuggle as we dance.

She’s not forbidden fruit,
which makes her harder to resist.
There’s so much more I want
but, it all starts with getting kissed.

I’d been alone for, gosh I don’t know,
seemed like a real long time,
then I met her on the internet,
she just up and dropped me a line.

The best that we can hope for,
is that between her house and mine,
we’ll share time in both places,
which would suit us both just fine.

I’m heading for the sunset,
in the twilight of my last days.
I can finally see my future
and I’m hoping she always stays.

We’ll make each other happy
and as we both get on with life,
there’ll be no apprehension,
She has no plans to become a wife.

A poem that many will be able to relate too and take comfort from the message of hope for a better and brighter future if they seek it.

Romantically wonderful and heartwarming because two lonely souls can still share all there is to share...

Be always safe,
Karen
