I MET A WONDERFUL NEW FRIEND
This isn’t my goodbye,
we’ll still visit now and again,
but likely much less often
and I don’t know just where or when.
You’re still on my mind a lot,
just not every single day.
You see, I met a wonderful new friend
and she’s been chasing you away.
That was never her intention,
she has memories of her own.
But, she’s often on my mind
when I find myself alone.
I’m confident you’d have liked her,
that she’d have been your friend,
if things had worked out differently,
if there’d have been a different end.
She’ll never get to know about
the trust we came to share,
or the loneliness we felt,
when the other wasn’t there.
But, she’s brought joy into my life
for the first time in quite a while.
And, when we spend time together
it’s much easier for me to smile.
I know you’ll always be there
as will her old memories,
but together we’ll seek our future
sharing whatever’s on the breeze.
