I Want to Share with You

My sweetie and I met almost 2 years ago on an online dating service. This is a poem I wrote to her a few months after we had gotten "together." We're awful close to taking a gigantic step and I wanted her to see this again, before we do. I've been a widower since 1986. Having a 24/7 companion, just might take some getting use to. I really do hope that I'm up to it.

I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU

I’ve written a number of poems,
some I’ve shared with you.
There are others that I’ve written,
but sharing them, I’m not ready to do.

Often the things I write,
are just for me to see.
Usually they’re about certain things
that are very personal to me.

Lately, some of my writings
have included thoughts of you.
I’ve been experiencing these strange feelings
that, for me at least, are new.

I’ve never been impulsive,
I’ve always tried to think things through.
At least that could be said,
until the day I first wrote you.

You’ve messed with my head.
You’ve scrambled up my brain.
I’ve been so long alone,
I’m unfamiliar with the terrain.

For years I‘ve been a bachelor.
That’s the life I know.
I’m not used to being with someone
wherever I may go.

You’re really very special.
You need only to believe.
I want to share more time with you
and there’s nothing up my sleeve.

But, finding someone so special
wasn’t something I had planned.
I’m not quite ready to commit
and need to know you understand.

I probably don’t deserve you,
but, I’ll try hard to earn that right.
And if you’ll be very patient,
in time,,,, some day,,,, I might.

Even though I‘m still not certain
of the direction we should take,
for the short time we have left,
nothing should be fake.

For me, you’re picture perfect.
I’m very comfortable with our fit.
And, I’m pretty sure my comfort
is as good as it can get.

Yet, I still can’t promise
never will we part.
I’ve lived a life of bachelorhood
and it’s still within my heart.

But, if some day we should separate,
you can be sure of it.
The reason will never be,
that I found a better fit.

Here and now I promise
always to be true .
Never shall you need to wonder
if there’s someone other than you.

Sounds to me like you are up to it. I was a bachelor for 10 years after my divorce, and I vowed to never marry again. But I did, she's been a life saver, and I'm very glad I was finally 'up to it.'

Aw gosh Richard, what a poem of truth, honesty and LOVE. From the safety and comfort of my own bachelorhood, I say take the plunge! I've read your other poems and they convey the love in your heart for this woman, "two" can become a "oneness" but loneliness is forever.
Decisions of the mind and heart,
David
