NEW BEGINNINGS
Two people alone,
each, having lost a mate to cancer.
Seeking new adventures,
each the other's likely answer.
Both ready for the next step,
neither sure of how to take it.
Both knowing it’s too important
for either of them to fake it.
Each wanting something more
not sure of what to call it.
Willing to share the cost
though that’s not about their wallet.
Lasting relationships don’t just happen,
they’re the result of constant effort.
A mixture of patience and understanding
and occasional groveling doesn’t hurt.
Each in their seventh decade
filled with memories and lessons
seeking the perfect companion,
unwilling to make concessions.
Once in a lifetime perfection
had seemed so very nice
They’d both had their “once,”
was lightning striking twice?
Two people alone,
each having lost a mate to cancer.
Seeking new adventures,
each certain they’d found the answer.

they’re the result of constant effort.
Indeed they are. And New Beginnings are usually wonderful.

in a good way too...it is a lovingness
you each know love and it is wonderful
you both have found each other
being alone has many an upside
but together has so many more benefits
The Next Step...or push...or shove
or she could stick out her leg & trip you :)

Excellent poem. I imagine it would be very difficult to find a new mate after loving someone that was your whole life. Sharing this difficult time would be easier than alone.
