SEEKING.
He was seeking to make a friend,
someone with whom to share his life.
Someone who would love him
though likely she’d never become his wife.
He was seeking compatibility,
someone with similar goals.
Never expecting such commonality
from deep within their souls.
He was hoping she’d be a golfer,
who also played a little pool.
That was what he wished for,
but it never became a rule.
She was also seeking
and she had certain aspirations,
but they weren’t cast in concrete,
she’d allow some deviation.
With their goals now stated,
their seeking had begun,
but neither had anticipated
that seeking would be such fun.
First she winked at him,
hoping he’d take the bait.
A message over the internet,
then she’d sit and wait.
He was new to computer dating,
but eventually he’d get the knack.
He accepted her wink,
then he winked right back.
Soon they were sending messages,
pouring out their souls.
Each had lost their loved one,
leaving them with gaping holes.
Cancer had been the culprit
in each of their situations,
but death had been a challenge,
not their total ruination.
They shared their stories
finding many common grounds,
each knowing it would be a month
before she’d be back in town.
By the time of their first meeting
they were fairly well acquainted.
He knew of her religion,
she knew he’d never be “Sainted.”
Finally that first date,
filled with much anticipation,
each hoping actuality
would surpass imagination.
She had chosen Baskin Robbins
as a safe place for them to meet.
Neither was disappointed,
neither wanted to retreat.
They had eaten the ice cream,
but that really wasn’t the treat,
each had found something
they were hoping to repeat.
