Let no hand

push her over;

cheat her of  the rush.

She already has clutched

Anticipation's Joy

having attached her own homemade wings

useless because she knew

they would not really make her fly

"But they might." she said.

Riveted all could see her

excited by the on-coming gravitylessness

the on-coming weightlessness

the journey down;

exhilaration;

the bungee cord;

the plunge.

Suddenly she was gone;

a sail

clothes billowing

as she rushed headlong

into the wind-filled abyss;

as we stood

squinting down 

hearing only

a faint

laugh

before the cord

snapped;

recoiling;

making her splay

outward

into our view;

our fourteen year old

laughed again

loving it all.
