To My Children

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

The verses of this poem were written as the result of a request I received. The man who requested this poem said he longed to have a verse that he could share with his children, when they are older, so they will know that while their Mother is in Heaven, she is and will always be with them.

May the Lord be with those who are battling the various forms of cancer and the families of those who, sadly, lost their earthen fight.

My children, please don’t cry for me
My earthen time was blessed
Your lives shall be my legacy
Though I am now at rest
The crystal skies I see each day
Reflect your smiles so bright
And while I am so far away
You’re in my soul, each night.

My children, please pursue your dreams
Don’t ever be afraid
Walk freely ‘neath the warm sunbeams
Over each dell and glade
So soon, your goals will be in view
Your hearts will find their way
And I will be so proud of you
Much more than words can say.

My children, know you’ll always be
My life’s greatest reward
And though, the Lord has set me free
You’ll always be adored
I’ll listen closely for your sighs
While hoping you’ll find calm
Though, we’ve said our earthen goodbyes
I’ll always be your Mom.

Jill, so very very beautiful. You've made me cry. I lost my mom last year to cancer, this touching poem sounds so much like her,and what she would say. Applause to you for this wonderful piece. Hugs, Laura.

I like the warmth that this poem radiates. In writing this for some one to read to his children you've thrown yourself in the mother's role; it sounds like something I'd like to say to my daughter... or have some one say it for me. :-)

Tender and right into my heart...this speaks to me so many times over. The adoration, respect and grace means so much coming from a mother and we reciprocate here and welcome each day of life. Mother's have a love so very different than any other dedicated love.

This is awesome work Jill. You are very perceptive to write so well about a another mother. A beautful poem that the father will be honored to show his children what a wonderful wife and mother she was. Outstanding !
