Canvas

A poem expressing how life is often a matter of individual perception.

Poem Artwork

An old cotton canvas, well weathered and worn
Has seen many shades since the day it was born,
Its glory has faded; time has paid its toll
But, when day is over, each crevasse is whole.

Where shades of light blue, once filled each soul with light
A dull, drab existence shall hinder our sight,
If we stare toward the canvas, once brilliant and bold
And fail to examine the beauty untold.

We live in the present, forgetting the past
Refusing to see that true beauty shall last,
Beyond faddish movements to better with age
For classics still linger when time turns a page.

An old cotton canvas appears at first glance
To be one more victim of life’s circumstance,
But, if we look deeper, we will soon perceive
The glory remains for those who still believe.

The skyline may not be as bright or as blue
But, if we are certain its beauty is true ,
We will see the canvas, as a gift in its prime
Since the colors will live in our hearts for all time.

A very enjoyable write this is. True we sometimes forget how beautiful something looked when it was new, but that is where the memory and imagination take over.

Be safe,
Karen

I was reading Opray's magazine while having my oil changed and every line of this poem was featured in one way or another there among the pages. It was about percieving age. There were the aged and gracef-l nudes of white-haired women and for the life of me...none appeared blemisded or weighted fown with negative baggage. In this was the key to being young...think always of the beauty of living and life will hand you grace and it's beauty.
Thank you.
Love,
Susan
