Heart-Shaped Canvas

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

A poem about losing love and growing to love yourself in the midst of being broken-hearted.

Poem Artwork

My heart is a canvas, painted navy blue
Expressing my feelings of life without you
Where once there was brilliance, no brightness is seen
If love is a palette, you have wiped mine clean
My soul was an easel, when amid your grace
My heart was protected; your love was my brace
But, those days are over; they’ll be nevermore
You have stripped the beauty from our days of yore.

My heart is a canvas, painted dapple gray
The shading is perfect, since you’ve gone away
No sunlight is found, only storm clouds appear
The shadows, more vibrant, since you were last here
My soul, filled with pictures that shall stay unpainted
The warm tones within them are evermore tainted
You’ve left me with nothing; the ink has run dry
Our portrait, unfinished, with no reasons why.

My heart is a canvas, as white as can be
There is nothing left of your time spent with me
Not one ounce of color; no brush strokes in view
Just a blank existence in transparent hue
My soul, now an easel for the broken-hearted
A frame for each soul whose love has now departed
Therefore, while I suffer, I will not alone
I’ve taken our painting and made it my own.

You've colored the depression that often follows lost love.

This is wonderfully refreshing and, although tinged with personal grieving, there is the hope of fresh inspiration, new positivity and a bright new world of perspective and opportunity within your chosen metaphor of the blank canvas. Ends are always difficult to let go of in one sense, but new beginnings usually usher in discovery and new creativity. This is indeed a "growing" poem. Crafted "pretty as a picture", too! :)) TY Kate xx

First find and cherish the divine beauty a Godly woman has within.
As the worlds views beautiful women, I'm not fooled as I once was, the first thing that strikes me about the gift of feminine beauty is the radiance of her soul, and when you come in to contact with such a woman it just blows you sideways, her mystery, her depth and her heart pounding beauty. This kind of beauty is ageless too...

Another great poem, I found this to be uplifting, for you are not alone, just someone worthy enough is yet to find a Texas Gem. And never give ones heart easily, make sure he earns it over time....
