High Seas

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

A fictional poem about entering a new relationship after a lengthy dating drought.

Poem Artwork

My heart has braved the seas, alone
For many years removed
I have survived well, on my own
And yet, that time has proved
My life can be a wayward ship
Upon an unknown course
Often far from my chosen trip
Thanks to the tidal force.

Despite the wind, the rain, and waves
My ship of life is led
By each memory my course engraves
Into my weary head
I know the seas can toss and turn
Sometimes, their power drowns
But, with each wave, I feel I learn
To take the ups and downs.

My heart has tempted the high seas
For years, as I remember
With no one but myself to please
Love was a passing ember
The seas, once filled with gloom and grief
Have smoothed, across each mile;
You’ve brought my life’s high seas relief
By offering your smile.

I love to watch the oceans tide so this speaks wonders to me.
A beautiful write and I thank you.

The sea can sing enchantment and make you want to dream
but let not your heart forget to share it's song with me.
God Bless,
Lew
