My Blessings

A poem about the many ways in which life is blessed.

Poem Artwork

My blessings are plenty; my burdens are little
I may not have much, but I have what I need
My front yard has large limbs I am free to whittle
From trees that have sturdily risen from seed
My freezer is filled from the floor to the ceiling
My kitchen is stocked with food from wall to wall
Regardless of what the years may be revealing
Deep within my heart, I feel I have it all.

I’ve slept ‘neath the shadows of a thousand moonbeams
I’ve watched as the stars said hello to the sun
I’ve followed a passage paved by many daydreams
And smiled when I was able to achieve one
I’ve witnessed the ocean caressing the coastline
I’ve trembled when rain swiftly poured from above
I’ve been awed by nature for its stellar design
My mind full of wonder; my soul full of love.

My blessings are plenty; my burdens are minor
I may not have much, but when day sees its end
I look out my window and know nothing’s finer
Than my greatest blessing: a dear and true friend
I’ve grown from my youth and accepted adulthood
I’ve conquered the moments of sorrow and pain
I view life as it was meant to be understood
A time filled with hope where my blessings remain.

Wonderful write, Jill; we need to count our blessings and stop bemoaning our lot in life. I know I do!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Burleson, Karen Lynn. :D

Beautifully done Jill. Thanks, I needed that today. It's been nearly 6 weeks now that my wife has been out of work with a staph infection. She's had surgery and things are looking up with her health. But when I look at the empty frig and freezer, see all the bills that have gone unpaid and thinking that there's nothing more I can do because of my own disability, I really need to concentrate on the many blessings that we do have like our 8 year old boy Jon. God bless you for this write Jill. It has helped me as I place my trust back with God knowing that somehow He will get us through all this.

We all need good friends and our God to bless what He gave us. Then we acknowledge who gave us our bounty and give thanks to our God above.
