Shadow of a Memory

A poem about loss and the sadness associated with a loss.

Saturday, December 1, 2007

Soft moonlit shadows appear on the walls
As a barn owl cries; no one meets his calls
The world, dark and lonely, seems lost in a sigh
Because, without warning, he told her goodbye
Minutes are like hours; the speed each one creeps
Waking in the morning is playing for keeps
Each day is much longer than she could have known
Regardless how busy, she is still alone.

Light breezes whisper; who knows what is said
Maybe they’re mocking the soul lost in bed
The one who so selflessly thought he would stay
Never understanding life is not that way
Everything changes; nothing stays the same
Yet, while she knows this, she still feels the blame
Would things be different if she had done more
Could she have spared the tears, reaching her floor?

Dark, dusky clouds quietly shade the moon
As a barn owl cries; harmony out of tune
Each moment passes so quickly and still
She wonders if these tough days ever will
Filled with regret, she thinks what might have been
Mourning the love that will ne’er be again
Her heart is broken, but ‘til darkness falls
She will be plagued by shadows on the walls.

Much sadness in this write Jill. Between the lines though, I see rays of hope shining through. Just writing it down and getting it all out in the open is a big step in itself. God bless you my friend and have faith. Better days may just be around the next turn.

Jill--the way you can make a person feel like they are not alone is so special. Sometimes an answer is not needed, just validation. Acknowledgment without a cliche fix-all.

Thank you for that--RaeLynn
