A long time ago, where the sand met the sea
A true Christmas miracle happened to be
For there, near a rock groin, nestled in the sand
Was a tiny kitten; the size of a hand
A light colored tabby, like many before
So little and yet, with so much life in store
Her tiny heart pounded the words of a prayer
In hopes that, one day, someone would find her there.
The kitten was born when the harvest moon shone
Soon after, her mother left her there, alone
A stray cat with other babies needing care
This abandoned runt found its own way to fare
With odds stacked against her, she scavenged for fish
Or anything else that could become a dish
Her malnourished heart had so much love to give
And that sense of love brought her the will to live.
The beautiful feline could have scoffed and seethed
But, deep within her soul, the kitten believed
One bright coastal sunrise would lead her to love
An answer to her prayers sent to God, above
Then, on Christmas morning, as the north wind blew
The innocent prayers of a kitten came true
When an older woman, out for a brisk walk
Heard the baby mewing, there beside the rock.
