New Year’s Morning

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

A poem about a couple who began their relationship on New Years' Day and their reflections upon their bond, each and every New Year.

Wednesday, January 2, 2008

When morning light appeared that day
A new start was in view
No clouds of doubt stood in the way
Of the dreams they both knew
A bright future was on their side
The yearning times were done
Their hearts were beaming, filled with pride
O’er the path they’d begun.

The morning light brought happy tears
That New Year’s Day at dawn
Elation had replaced the fears
All hopelessness was gone
A new commencement was in sight
Their souls were on one page
Their feelings were ready for flight
Upon a larger stage.

That first morning gave way to eve
But, some things remained true
Their minds were eager to believe
A gift reserved for few
Had found its way into their lives
For that year and beyond
Now, when every New Year arrives
They celebrate their bond.
