The dust on my heart had formed over time
A product of years I had spent on my own
Through hours and words written in metered rhyme
The layer had settled and become well known
Some teardrops had fallen, but when they were through
Their stains were replaced with a mountain of clutter
That was until the day I was blessed by you
Your love cleansed my soul and has made my heart flutter.

You’ve shown me the beauty I lost in the dimness
As once I believed darkness claimed every day
After many years, being trapped ‘neath the grimness
It’s nice to see the world in a brighter way
Indeed, you’re a glimmer of light I admire
You’ve opened your heart and allowed me inside
You’ve shown me the meaning of warmth and desire
By reaching a special place I thought had died.

The dust on my heart had become rather normal
At times, I was certain this was meant to be
O’er the years, I longed for a love, true and formal
But, time after time, such love was not for me
Then, one brilliant morning, sunlight reached the surface
And love wiped away all the grime that I knew
From that moment on, my life has had a purpose
To honor the feelings that I have for you.
