Life is a River

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

A poem about taking life as it comes and enjoying every minute of it.

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Life is a river, filled with highs and lows
We follow its course wherever it flows
Across rocky ledges, often rough and steep
We live for the present; its promise we keep
We cannot predict what the future will tell
Life’s waters may smooth or their currents may swell
By treating each moment we live as the best
We’ll sail through the torrents and be fully blessed.

Life is a river of corners and curves
Some moments are pleasant, while others strain nerves
Through good times and bad, we still dance with the tide
Grateful we’ve been given this prized earthen ride
As we travel onward, we think of the good
Even if our struggles are quite understood
The good times bring calm as we go on our way
Toward making the most of each God-given day.

Life is a river, beautiful and free
We follow its course and carve our legacy
A legacy known for compassion and strength
As we travel onward, grief kept at arm’s length
Stress can stir the waters, but we trudge ahead
Much hope for tomorrow by which we are led
With heads facing forward, grace comes from above
As we trace the path of life’s river of love.

Great write Jill. Life sure is a winding river. Some of us just flow with the tide while others take up the oars and row.

Still all in all it's a great ride,
It can be sorrowful too we know;
At times the river is full of fear,
Still take up the oars, continue to row.

This is a great poem if you don't currently live in a flooded area. Then the river is not high and low, it's too high. But Excellent write. Liz
