Come Back to Me

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

When relationships are on the verge of ending and one party in the relationship is not ready to admit defeat, the pain can be overpowering. We've all experienced it (Some more recently than others).

I wrote this poem for the ones who are struggling with "The End" and hoping some trace of love can still be salvaged.

Come back to me when eagles soar
Across the skies of blue
When angels waltz through Heaven’s door
Singing a verse or two
When sunlit days burn clouds aside
And dreams can never end
On that day, love won’t be denied
At last, our hearts shall mend.

Come back to me before the dawn
Becomes the afternoon
Before the shadows cross the lawn
And stars dance with the moon
Before the beauty fades to black
I hope you’ll find your way
While loving me for all I lack
If so, I know you’ll stay.

Come back to me and share this life
Be mine to have and hold
When hours are marred by stress and strife
Grant me support untold
I know we both need time and space
Whate’er shall be, shall be
But, please, if love is but a trace
Baby, come back to me.

Jill,

So much truth in these lines ... sometimes best to just let go. Know what I mean? Well penned.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Sometimes people treats love like a commodity not like a feeling, and doing that perhaps they save us for further great pain in the future.
Then again...I never heard someone saying "baby, come back to me"

What a wonderful combination of meaningful lyrics presented with a rhythmic meter and cadence that make for an easy read and pleasing oral recitation. And I love your imagery, such as "Before the shadows cross the lawn/And stars dance with the moon."

The sorrow and heartache that accompany a plea of "Come Back to Me" is unfortunate. If you didn't "make it" the first time, the second time usually is of shorter duration. But your subject is one known by many hearts.

This is really, really well done. I love it, Jill!
