Caveat

by Robin Ouzman Hislop — Read all 170 poems by Robin Ouzman Hislop

Friday, November 14, 2003

Jason, tabby, listens to moonbeams grow,
smart as he is in his snow white cravat,
soft as doveīs down, no, quite a caveat!

Come visit this large unhairy fellow,
who isnīt sure if your just dropping in
from an overhead larger furrier skin.

Cat caveat, this mouthīs full of spittle,
it splatters & splitters from tongue to gum
& he pricks up like a thunder stormīs come.
I hope dropping in means my acquittal.

Such sweetness not secret malevolence,
a baleful reproach that I owe him one,
a time long ago, a wrong him Iīd done,
that dropping in doesnīt mean recompense.
