My Song

by Edie M. Batstone — Read all 134 poems by Edie M. Batstone

When the skies are grey and the rain won't stop, and my mood is in a downward spiral, I have found that a ladder with musical rungs helps me climb back up!

My Song

As I went about my work
On an ordinary day,
A melody encountered me
And we began to play;
It prompted me to lift my voice
And sing out from my heart,
I was lifted from my daily tasks,
I only had to start,
And soon the words came back to me,
I sang the sweet refrain;
I emptied all my troubles out
Till just the song remained.

I like to whistle, and blow my troubles away with a tune.

Such a simple refrain with a simple melody that rings so true and beautiful. I was practically singing it as I read--wonderful!
