Who Am I - In Twenty Minutes?!

by Edie M. Batstone — Read all 134 poems by Edie M. Batstone

None of us knows how many ‘twenty minutes’ periods we will have left to grow and change and become; I’d like to introduce myself – just wait twenty minutes!

Who Am I – In Twenty Minutes?!

I'm a wondrous work in progress,
A conundrum to be sure;
When I wake up every morning,
When my thoughts are still a blur,
Before I even raise my head,
And start to take thoughts in,
Life turns a brand new page for me,
A chance to write a melody,
Then offers me the pen;
The words I write
Might help or heal,
Might change a life,
But then,
I'm still a work in progress,
I won't know till I begin.

WONDERFUL! BEING A 'WORK-IN-PROGRESS' IS JUST WHERE GOD NEEDS US TO BE, BECAUSE IF WE'VE ALREADY REACHED PERFECTION THAT WE DON'T NEED HIM. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Who we are keeps changing because we are a work in progress. Muhammad Ali once said, that a man who views the world at 50, the same way he did at 20, has wasted 30 years of his life.

In the five minutes (I'm a slow reader) it took me to read this, I soon realized you could be almost anyone who writes. So, I was no more getting to know the real you than before.

I have found that it takes much more than 20 minutes for people to know me. There are people that have known me for years and still don't know me. One of the things that does happen when a stranger sees me, is the impression I give probably is totally misconceived until I at least began to talk to the person and tell them who I am. In order to keep misconceptions down, I do so freely and people are generally interested, and often surprised, when they hear.

Number one on people's minds when they see me… Disabled Vietnam veteran. No. Rejected by my draft board with a 1Y designation.
