The Planter

by Edie M. Batstone — Read all 134 poems by Edie M. Batstone

Written as a tribute to a beautiful lady, talented writer, and true friend of the environment in all its forms, particularly its feathered friends. See more on my blog entry.

A planter passed this way one day,
And scattered seeds about,
The birds flew in with shouts of glee,
To check the banquet out.

Some they ate, and some they dropped,
Upon the welcoming earth;
Plants grew up, their seeds formed well,
Eager for rebirth.

Those tiny birds can tell us much;
To share, for who knows when
The planter will return,
To gather seeds to spread again.

So beautifully true. The planter in our house brings birds every day to scatter seeds, splash in the bird bath and congregate in the apricot tree. Some of those seeds have some mighty fine productive crops.
