We'll Be OK

by Edie M. Batstone — Read all 134 poems by Edie M. Batstone

It has been a difficult month for everyone - We are all feeling tremendous pressure as anxiety presses its foot down firmly on our backs, trying to keep us in a state of despair.
We are being challenged to grow through the pavement, towards the light of hope that is trying hard to draw us upwards. We all want to believe that everything will return to some sense of normal soon, that we'll be ok.

Sunday, March 7, 2021

We're going to be ok -
Hope springs from a grateful heart.

When ok comes back,
And we breathe once more,
Shall we all go back to the status quo,
Where we put off so many things,
Believing that time has loosed its strings;
Let progress slide back down the slope,
And wasteful habits re-enter our door;

Or with new eyes,
Look beyond ourselves,
Onto a landscape of hope renewed;
Gain from our losses,
Lift others' crosses,
And nurture the gardens
Where selflessness grew;

As we longed for close hugs,
We cried lonely tears,
Opened our souls,
Exposed private fears,
Revealed our fragility,
Our vulnerability,
And found in our sharing,
That we weren't alone;

As anxiety eases,
Let our gratefulness grow,
And with eyes freshly opened,
Find new seeds to sow;
Sharing life's treasures
In generous measure,
A river of kindness, in infinite flow;

As we emerge once again,
Through the portals of pain,
With truths we have learned,
Inner strength we have gained;
It will lift us and heal us,
Push worries away,
Remind us that hope
Is far stronger than fear,
Kindness will flourish,
And we'll be ok!

Your poem speaks well for those who were highly socially engaged prior to the lockdown of almost everything done daily. Having never left the house six months before the Coronavirus hit home here United States, having a voluntary retreat from contact with others did not change my lifestyle that all. My partner switched from doing alterations to making masks.

Here in the US, over 500,000 have died. For some families and for some communities, they were hit hard. For us, we know of no one or very few who have even contracted the disease. Now that the vaccines are coming and they are effective, things will return to normal quite soon, perhaps within three months.

But you have captured the angst and sadness of those trapped in a lifestyle they thought they would never have to live. But there are lessons for us all, and you're right, we'll be OK.

Poetic words of hope that we can all use during these trying times. Thank you for posting this fine tribute to positivity.
