It Never Ceases to Amaze!

Scents are an essential part of our memories:
The smell of the earth in a greenhouse,
The smell of sawdust in a workshop,
The smell of fresh wood in a newly built house,
The smell of fish and algae by the river,
The smell in the air after a rain,
The smell of apple pie baking,
They all trigger some of our best memories;
The smell of a baby after his or her bath,
The smell of wild roses on the bushes at the side of the road,
The smell of the wax and honey in a beehive,
The smell of a fresh green Christmas tree,
The smell of a lilac bush,
The smell of fresh-cut grass or of new-mown hay,
Or fresh woodchip bedding surrounding newborn chicks;
These and so many other scents turn memories into 'scentories'
That never cease to amaze;


Those little treasures, bits of life
That suddenly appear,
And open up our senses,
Touch us deeply, and so clear,
The sounds and scents of nature,
The memory of a loved one's smile,
Feed our need, and heed our plea
To walk with us awhile;
Yes, even our darkest days,
They have the power to amaze!
