It’s gone out of my head, yes it has.
I had a great thought, but didn’t write it down
Almost I recall it, just out of range, but—
It’s gone out of my head, just like that.
It’s gone, gone, gone, gone, gone
Oh, so, so gone!
It was better than this scene I wrote.
It would’ve tied all things together nice and tight
Characters, plot, theme, and everything!
But it’s gone.
Gone, gone, gone . . .
Ohhhhh, sooooo Gone!
Why didn’t I wake and jot it down?
How come I didn’t stop to write it down?
Where’s the notebook I had to write it down?
Who stole the pen I had to write it down?
My idea was great and now it’s gone!
Oooohhh, sooooooo, Gone!!!
The phone rang, so I didn’t write it down.
The kids took my notebooks, my paper and pens . . .
Yeah, I got a million excuses for not writing it down!
Oh gee, I wish I wrote it down.
‘Cause now it’s just all gone, gone, gone!
Oho, sooooooooooooooo, Gone!
Darn! For the want of a pen, an idea was lost.
For the want of an idea, the book was toast
For the want of the book, the author went hungry,
Because she didn’t write it down!
Such a brilliant idea too
Poo!
