Morning Glory Morning

by Myra Wexler Darwish — Read all 62 poems by Myra Wexler Darwish

In honor of my sister Harriet, who passed in November 2005. This poem expresses a moment captured in time many years ago (1954), as we sat outside in our modest little garden in West Philadelphia, sipping tea and philosophizing.

Morning Glory Morning

By Myra Wexler Darwish

Two sisters, two hearts

Summer in the city, never far apart.

The morning blooms created a space

That all of eternity will never erase.

One small table, two small chairs

         Timeless moments, life without care.

         Laughing, sharing, sipping tea

In the garden, Harriet and me.

Topics of history, music and art

Lively discussions, each taking a part.

Wiser than most beyond their years

Bonded forever by happiness and tears.

A sister, a treasure, a comrade, a friend

A love that endures, a love without end.

The Glories witnessed on those golden summer days

That joy created will never fade away.

Two sisters, two hearts – forever connected, never far apart!
