Hope Riding On Eagles' Wings

by Myra Wexler Darwish — Read all 62 poems by Myra Wexler Darwish

Hope Riding On eagles' Wings is a poetic expression of the current angst that is being felt by many since the election of 2016. It is a poem of hope, which ultimately recognizes the strength of coming together despite our differences.

 HOPE RIDING ON EAGLES’ WINGS
(Written to express what the experience of being in a country that is going
through a profound change process is like since the election of 2016)

If I could ride on eagles’ wings high above the land,
I’d see union and division, with their lines drawn in the sand.
Though hope dwells there for a few, there is also fear and doubt,
Our unsettled country is changing fast – as I travel about.

At the deepest meaning of changes’ core,
The word loss comes to the fore,
Bringing with it uncertainty,
By allowing sadness and grief to be.

The preciousness of our land so loved,
Needs the collective strength of the hawk and the dove…
Together their energies must abide,
To reach out across the great divide.

I agree with your end statement. We need the hawk and the dove, a perfect balance. God knew what he was doing when he made these creatures. Thank you for sharing your ethereal poem of beauty, have a great day dear Myra x

I don't see much hope in the devaluing of education. When we turn education into a business or moneymaking we have missed the point of critical thinking. When we start thinking the way our cohorts think rather than for ourselves, hope diminishes.

If only the division were between hawk and dove...
And not by sanity and self-centered megalomania
With control of the nuclear arsenal.

We need hope, and the ability to compromise, which is something we seem to have lost somewhere along the way.
